Since we started our blog a few years ago, we have been reviewing foods and treats of all kinds. Yorkie owners are as diverse as their pets, and the range of products that are available is overwhelming. Everyone seems to recommend a different type of food. We try to be as open as possible, trying everything we can get our hands on.
We recently made a list of our Top 10 Yorkie Food Companies, and I admit, I hadn’t tried every food brand because, well, that’s almost impossible unless food reviewing was my full-time job. So, I knew that even after that post, we’d be trying new foods. Perhaps we’ll post an annual top 10… Today, we tried a new food and wanted to share our experiences with you.
Bil-Jac is a pet company we have worked with before, and we really love this company. Bil-Jac has been making superior quality dog food in the United States since 1947. We have tried the treats, but not the food. Quite a few of our readers have suggested we try it, but we just haven’t had the opportunity, until now. The great folks at Bil-Jac sent us a sample bag of their Adult Select Premium Dog Food to try for ourselves.
The very first thing I noticed was the shape of the pieces. They’re nothing like any other food we have tried. The shape is rather interesting and is easy to break down – good for little Yorkie mouths.
Bil-Jac’s dry foods has been reviewed by DogFoodAdvisor.com and is listed as a recommended food. You can read the analysis there for a list of ingredients and other info.
The recommended feeding guidelines say that for Catherine’s size, she should eat about 1/4 cup per day. That’s about the same amount as most other premium dog foods. And, the food has added Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids to promote healthy skin and a healthy coat.
Here’s a little blurb from their website:
Bil-Jac Adult Select Formula is specially formulated with the nutrients your adult dog needs. 25 lbs. of real chicken are used to make a 30 lb. bag of Bil-Jac Adult Select Dry Dog Food. Slow cooked in small batches for outstanding nutrition and taste.
We tried the Bil-Jac Adult Select and Catherine realy likes it. Chicken is a protein that she will almost always eat. Lately, I have been making my own “toppers” with ground venison and vegetables, and mixing kibble with it for her daily meals. Since this Bil-Jac food is AAFCO recognized as “complete and balanced nutrition for all life stages”, it’s a good base for my homemade food to ensure that Catherine is getting all of her recommended nutrients.
