This is our review of Bil-Jac’s new grain free training treats. We are also giving away a 10 ounce bag of treats to one lucky reader!
As you’ve probably read, here at Yorkie Splash and Shine, we love our Yorkie treats. I enjoy making my own and using them as rewards for good behavior (something that should continue, even for a well-trained Yorkie). But, I get busy, and like everyone else, convenience makes my life a lot easier. So, I am always on the lookout for a treat that my Yorkie will love.
The Product
Recently, Bil-Jac introduced a new line of products – grain free foods and treats. That means no filler, no wheat, no corn, no soy, no gluten! Grain free is a great alternative for Yorkies with food sensitivities. The most common Yorkie food sensitivities are to beef, wheat, corn and soy (see our “Interview with the Pet Nutritionist”). Bil-Jac’s grain free products leave all of these ingredients out, opting for chicken and peas as the major ingredients in both their grain free food and grain free treats.
The Review
We tried Bil-Jac’s Grain Free Soft Training Treats, Chicken and Sweet Potato Formula. The treats are soft and smallish and easy to chew. My Catherine is just under 5 pounds, so she’s on the smaller side of average for a Yorkie, and she has no problem with chewing the whole pieces. This is a bonus, since many treats have to be broken into smaller pieces in order for her to eat them.
Flavor factor – must be amazing because Catherine loves these treats. I couldn’t get her to even sniff some of the treats we have tried, and Catherine is quite picky, but these she loves. Catherine’s Rating, she gives is 4 paws up!
Ingredients – They are grain free, and contain no fillers. That said, just about every treat that you can purchase from a store has to have some stuff in it to keep it from going bad, so there are some negatives in the ingredient list (but, unless you make your own treats, that’s going to be the case with pretty much anything you buy). Here’e the full ingredient list: Chicken, Chicken Liver, Chicken Meal, Pea Flour, Pea Starch, Glycerine, Dried Sweet Potato, Propylene Glycol, Phosphoric Acid, Salt, Potassium Sorbate and Citric Acid and Mixed Tocopherols and Calcium Propionate and BHA (Preservatives), Rosemary Extract.
